This was a showcase by the Wadhurst Youth Theatre to demonstrate their work on
improvisation, trust, speech, etc., followed by their presentation of a comic stroll through
history. Although I was not attending in my official Regional Representative role, I hope the
following may be acceptable.
The Programme: A4 folded programme provided details of the cast list and some background
on the WYTKidz also on their chosen charity, Demelza House Childrens’ Hospice, to which the
total proceeds of the performance would be sent.
Make Up: by Harriet Blackstone was nicely done.
Costume: For the presentation of The Bourbons and Other Crackers, the costumes by Caroline
Moverley-Smith and Pippa Blackstone were very appropriate for each of the characters and
looked superb from the auditorium.
The Production
The presentation in the first half gave us a good insight into what the cast learnt from their
meetings every Wednesday during term time and each item had been well thought through.
Keep up the learning of this enjoyable art.
The Bourbons and Other Crackers
All the cast were confident, had clear diction and could be heard clearly; each person showed
their understanding of stage etiquette. It would be invidious to pick out any particular act as
all were well executed. But I must mention the 3 Egyptians in their routine. That reminded
me of a similar act which was done nearly every evening in and around Leicester Square back
in the 1950’s & early 60’s to entertain the queues of patrons outside the theatres. Well done
you three boys! As for the history lesson... I think I might remember some of it better now!
I hope you had a good sum of money to send to your chosen charity.
My best wishes for the future.
